  • 5 cups water (adjust for consistency)
  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon chana dal (split Bengal gram)
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal (black gram)
  • 2-3 dried red chilies
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 cardamoms
  • 2 tablespoons grated coconut (fresh or dry)
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds (optional)

For Tempering (Tadka)

  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 10-12 cashews (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon asafoetida (hing)

Step-by-Step Preparation

📌 Step 1: Cook Rice and Dal

  1. Rinse rice and toor dal separately.
  2. Pressure cook them together with 4 cups of water, turmeric, and a little salt for 3-4 whistles. Set aside.

  1. Heat a pan with 1 tablespoon oil.
